John Reischman is one of the world's undisputed masters of the mandolin. He was an original member of The Tony Rice Unit. His top notch band plays a stylish and energetic take on bluegrass, that blends original songs and instrumentals with Appalachian old-time music for a truly unique band sound.
A rare New England apearance by this West Coast band!

This talented, harmony rich duo presents an entertaining blend of original and traditional songs, ranging from ballads to blues to bluegrass. They will joined by talented mandolinist Bob Dick.

The top musicians in bluegrass have been open and eloquent in discussing their music, their lives, and the ups and downs of being a professional musician.
From Jerry Douglas, Tim O'Brien, Doyle Lawson and Sierra Hull to Peter Rowan, Larry Sparks, Bryan Sutton and Michael Cleveland, I think you'll be impressed with their eloquence and humanity.

While we can't have Bill Monroe himself on the podcast, we do have fascinating conversations with those who knew him, and played in his band.
My recent chat with bassist Mark Hembree is wonderful. He played with Monroe from 1979-1984. He joined as a long-haired 22 year old, and it took a long time before he and his Southern bandmates saw eye to eye, if indeed they ever did.
His stories range from Bill and Charlie Monroe's feud, Kenny Baker's stoicism and occasional humor, Monroe's infamous bus, meager pay and exhausting travel, to exhilarating concerts, learning to play bass in Monroe's rhythmic pocket, and the highs and lows of being a "Bluegrass Boy".
Mark Hembree's recent book, "On The Bus with Bill Monroe" is a fascinating true story of his life as a Bluegrass Boy. You can get it at your local library, or buy it here: Universty of Illinois Press.
Highly recommended!
